Learning Outcome #3

Learning Outcome #3

Approaching learning outcome three before the semester would have probably been my strongest learning outcome from previous schooling. My previous courses in English were heavily designed to focus on annotating and reading with intention. Being able to not only comprehend, but be able to set yourself up further while reading, as well as think deeper into topics as you fly through words on the screen is an important thing to be able to build up. Throughout the papers we read and analyzed I believe that each one was stronger than the last. Part of being able to intuitively read is a skill that I find easier the more I read and especially the more I write. As Jesse Miller has said all semester, the more you read the better you will write, and the more you write the better you will be able to think. I believe that this applies greatly to the process of annotating, because for my annotation process not only am I reading and writing, but I am thinking deeper about each topic, as well as thinking of what is coming in the future for either my writing or the paper I am reading. I design my annotations to provoke thoughts as I am reading as well as when I come back later for quotes and to find deeper meaning to the writing. Often when I look back into my annotations it only takes one word or phrase to return me to my original thoughts I had when I was reading. I think that this style of annotation combats well with my style of writing, pulling idea’s out left and right and looking deeper into them. This development has allowed me not only to make meaningful annotations, but allowed me to become a better, somewhat efficient, and deep thinking writer.
