Learning Outcome 1
Differences between my approach to revision has changed drastically compared to my initial writing, previous essays, and multiple drafts written for my chosen work sample. Throughout the process of revision I have changed the way that I write, I no longer am trying to write the perfect essay in one go, the night before the assignment is due. I find myself writing as thoughts come to my head, trying to add onto my paragraphs as if they are conversations. Talking about revision and the writing process in class helped me begin this process. Understanding that each sentence is important to write with purpose has been my biggest change throughout paper #2. In my initial drafts I try to be as open as possible, inviting the reader into a story, while still sticking to the basics of introducing my topics and other authors I use in my writing. Although my drafts aren’t completely different stories like some rough drafts and final essays look like, this In my mind shows that the revision process doesn’t start right before you turn in the paper. The revision process begins the second I begin to start writing, making sure every sentence is fitting with the one before it and the one that follows. A big part of my progress as I talked about earlier is being able to change my mindset from hitting a word count to having meaningful writing and I believe that paper two is a great example of this development. Engaging in this kind of revision is what I interpret global revision to be. Because everyone that has taken a basic level english class in highschool will know how to correct sentences and grammar problems. This kind of local revision, while still important, is not the primary focus of this learning outcome. Each of my drafts show a base for the next, and a continuation of the work I am producing all while revision is in the back of my mind.
